Next a highly recommended quite lengthy blog post from Steve Denning on Why do great KM programs fail?

where he comes to the conclusion that:

The fundamental assumptions, attitudes and values are at odds with those of traditional management

and therefore

KM is incompatible with the underlying philosophy of traditional management

And finally the metaphorical solution can be found in a recent Cognitive Edge Blog reply by my Argenta colleague Brian SJ who quotes Antoine de Saint-Exupery :

If you want to build a ship,
don’t drum up the men to gather wood,
divide the work and give orders.
Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.
