A very interesting article by Bruce Upbin on the Forbes.Com website caught my eye. Entitled ‘The five habits of highly innovative leaders‘.

Intriguingly, further into the article they then call them the habits of disruptive innovators.

My particular favourite is that of the fifth and final habit – Associational Thinking which it describes as:

Associational Thinking— drawing connections between questions, problems, or ideas from unrelated fields — is triggered by questioning, observing, networking, and experimenting (you will see from the article that these are in fact the first four habits) and is the catalyst for creativity.

In my work with Argenta Europ Ltd we have been experimenting in workshops with methods that encourage this kind of thinking and I had up until now been more likely to describe it as force-fitting but I do like this terminology, the five habits and their definitions.
